I recently viewed a video of "The Secret," the popular documentary highlighting the Law of Attraction. I enjoyed it very much and recommend it as an entertaining and richly insightful illumination of a metaphysical principle underlying so much of our lives. As many of you know, I have been studying and teaching the principles of Abraham, and Jerry and Esther Hicks are dear and respected friends of mine. It is wonderful to see great truths embraced by the masses. I was also impressed by the articulate commentary of a number of the other presenters on the program. If I were on the program, or produced a sequel, there are two elements "The Secret" touched on I would bring to center stage: First, "the secret" is no secret at all. It has been shouted from the rooftops by every great philosopher and metaphysician since soothsayers have been saying their sooths. It is scribed in every book of substance, provides a backbone for every movie with a point, ripples through Rumi's poetry, and wends its way through inspired music, art, and all forms of creative expression. The only reason the secret has remained a secret is that very few people have paid attention to it. Most people are distracted by fear and mass limited thinking, which blinds them to the truth as plain as the noonday sun. When each of us finally awakens to the obviousness of the principles behind a successful life, we exclaim, "My God, how could I have overlooked that!?" We are like the guy walking around looking for his reading glasses, only to find they were sitting atop his head - a secret to him, but not to reality. I would also emphasize a secret behind the secret: All that you seek, you already have, and are. If you think that the purpose of the Law of Attraction is to get stuff, you have gotten off the bus one stop too early. We believe that if we could just get the Jaguar, we would get the good feeling. And we would - until it gets its first ding. The deeper secret is that if we could get the good feeling, the Jaguar would naturally follow without a lot of hassle and stress. We would not worry about losing it because when you're happy from the inside out, when you recognize you can tap into everything the Jaguar represents, right where you are sitting, doors open that would not have opened when you were trying to get the thing for the sake of the thing. I don't advise making stuff the goal. Make Spirit the goal, and you will have everything you need, and more. When a coaching client told me she was having difficulty manifesting her dream home, I asked her to describe it to me. "It's a house on a hill, surrounded by tall trees, with an ocean view." "Cool," I answered. "What feeling does the house give you?" "Security." "And the hill?" "The hill would give me perspective." "Excellent. And the trees?" "Trees represent steady growth." "Now, your ocean view?" "The ocean makes me feel expansive." "Perfect," I replied. "So you are really looking for security, perspective, steady growth, and expansiveness." "That's right!" she lit up. "And if you could have all of those, would you really need the house?" "I guess it wouldn't matter." In that brief interaction we moved to the real level of my client's desire, which was spiritual, not material. So it is for all of us. We search the outer world for inner reward. When we tap into inner reward independent of what is going on out there, our hand is in the real cookie jar. I want my client to get her house, as I want you to get the perfect partner, career, home, finances, and health. And you will. The only thing I want more is for you to get who you are. Everything you seek, you already are. Everything you want, you already own inside. Everything that is secret, is already revealed.

The Power of Gratitude
When a truly inspiring story comes my way, I love to share it with you. This one, by reader Janene Mascarella, is masterful in principle and expression:
Ten years ago, I was sitting alone on a Florida beach, weeping very quietly, when a stunning woman wearing an oversize red hat and expensive sunglasses walked over and placed a book at the edge of my towel. She said nothing, just smiled and walked back to her blanket.

Q & A
From the "Ask Alan" section on our web site:
How can I Rebuild Damaged Family Relationships?
After 17 years, I no longer visit my in-laws. Classic alcoholic family in whose presence I feel "crazy." We didn't celebrate Thanksgiving with either my husband’s family or my own. My sister verbally attacked me when I last saw her. She was "defending" my mom who was upset we didn't spend the holidays with her. I stayed in my heart, listened, and did not get defensive, as I could "see" what was happening. It seems like I no longer trust my mom or sister. How can I rebuild relationships that seem damaged?
