It Wants You, Too
I saw a marvelous billboard advertising the sleek BMW Z-4 sports car. The ad simply splashed a photo of the shiny car and proclaimed, "It wants you, too." The sign was teaching a crucial metaphysical lesson: The good you seek is seeking you. If you deeply desire a mate with certain characteristics, someone just like that is looking for someone like you. If you have a house to sell, someone is in the market for a house like yours. If you need a job, an employer needs someone with your unique skills. The universe functions in perfect balance. The voice of fear and lack tells you that you are small, alone, and abandoned, and you have to struggle to get what you want and need. The voice of trust and abundance reminds you that all is well, you do not walk alone, and you are provided for in a million ways you do not understand and cannot manipulate. Fortunately, the voice of trust is far closer to the truth than the voice of fear, so you do not need to pay a moment's attention to the ranting of desperation. You are not desperate, so don't act like you are. In a talk I recently gave in a church, I mentioned one of my favorite films, Standing in the Shadows of Motown, a documentary about a little-known group of musicians behind nearly all of the great Motown hits. After the service, a fellow came up to me and told me, "My brother produced that movie. Before the story was a movie, it was a book. Author Allan Slutsky searched for years for a movie producer, to no apparent avail. Then one day he was sitting next to a fellow on an airplane and he told his seatmate about his dream to turn the book into a movie. My brother liked the idea and produced it." You have no idea how or when a dream might come true. If you want your dream to come true, you have to be true to it. Then let the great Law of Attraction help you with the details. It wants you, too.

The Answer is Within
Many of you ask about tips for a rewarding meditation practice. Daily meditation has been one of the richest blessings in my life over many years, and I recommend it to everyone who is seeking deeper peace, clarity, and effectiveness in his or her life. It really works! While there are many good meditation techniques, below is one that I have used the has helped me. There are 5 parts, each one leading easily to the next:
1. Relaxation. Sit in a comfortable place, take a few deep breaths, and let your body go. If you walk, do yoga, or work out beforehand, all the better. 2. Concentration. For a few minutes watch your breath, focus on a sound or image, or use a mantra. Bringing your mind to one point helps free you from distracting thoughts. 3. Contemplation. Delve into an image or idea you find uplifting. Go in your mind to a beautiful place in nature, contemplate an uplifting poem or scripture, or mentally call to you someone who inspires you. 4. Meditation. This is the heart and goal of true meditation. Let all thoughts go, relax behind them, and take rest in the silence, which is not empty at all, but extremely rich. Find the wordless place of peace deep within you where thoughts, emotions, and worldly events cannot distract, and you remember your true self. 5. Blessing. When you feel whole and filled, prepare to return to activity by cultivating uplifting, prayerful thoughts about yourself, your day, and those you will interact with. Send love, good wishes, healing, and positive thoughts to all who come to mind, and invite your higher power to walk through your day with you, drawing helpful and creative events to you.
I recommend 20 minutes of meditation as soon as you awake, and another session before you go to sleep. Once you get into the flow you will feel better, think sharper and see important changes in whatever you do.
You don't always need to know beforehand.
Q & A
From the "Ask Alan" section on our web site:
Is it too Late to Follow my Dream?
I have written several books and illustrated a children's book - all sitting in my drawer. My problem is that I also have a chronically ill daughter and a best friend whose son is dying. Before this, I took care of an abusive, alcoholic dad and a chronically depressed mom who needed round the clock care after a stroke. I didn't know how unhappy I was until I read your book and remembered my long ago dreams of being a published success. But the pain of life keeps getting in the way. I'm exhausted with sorrow and have lost my passion for living. I can't live like this anymore. I want to feel alive and happy again. Is it too late to follow a dream? Too selfish? And if not how do I do it? Where do I begin?
