When Love Won't Quit

     I was reading an interview with Dan Brown, author of the blockbuster novel and film The DaVinci Code. I thoroughly enjoyed both the book and movie, and believe they are the work of genius.

     The interviewer asked Dan, “How did you get the idea for The DaVinci Code?”  Dan explained that he was introduced to the mystical aspects of DaVinci’s paintings in an art history course he took in Spain. Those seeds grew into the vision of transforming the principles into a novel, until “This particular story kept knocking on my door until I answered.”

     This is how magnificent ideas, inventions, and life transformations occur: They keep knocking on your door until you answer.  Even as you read these words, the power of your good is trying to get your attention to do something that will make your life better and possibly help many others. It may be an idea for a book, piece of music, artwork, a business venture, developing a friendship or relationship, asking someone to marry you, have a family, or make a significant change in your life in favor of inner peace. You know what it is.

      You may judge this seedling idea as fantastic, outrageous, undoable, impossible, selfish, or simply the ranting of ego or imagination. But if it keeps knocking, maybe there is a reason. Maybe it is not your little idea for yourself, but Spirit’s big idea for you.  Can you imagine how different Dan Brown’s life would be ― and the lives of all the readers and the movie viewers he has touched ― if he didn’t hearken to that still, small voice?  If he responded, "Who, me?" The DaVinci Code made publishing history by selling over 40 million copies, and is still going strong, now in paperback.  The ideas in the book have uplifted the lives of many, and moved many others to reconsider their views of life, history, the cosmos, and the importance of the feminine aspect of life. I would say Dan Brown did well to answer the knocking at the door.

      And you may do well to answer the knocking at your door. We all know well the phrase, “Ask and you shall receive.” Usually we interpret teaching as, “Ask God, and God will give it to you.”  The principle also works in the direction of the divine knocking at the door of human consciousness. God asks, we answer, and the whole world receives.

    So shift your response from "Who, me?" to "Yes, me," and you may have a 40-million blockbuster to your credit, or at least (maybe at most) find the inner peace your heart desires.
